Mud & Peat Treatments

What is a mud/peat treatments

The most characteristic feature of mud/peat is its good heat storage and long cooling time. The temperature of the mud pack is usually 38-42°C, but the doctor can prescribe a different temperature. The mud pack is applied on the areas of the body and joints as specified by the doctor. The body is then wrapped into an insulating sheet and a dry linen sheet. After 20 minutes, the mud/peat is washed off, and a 15-minute dry body pack follows to complete the beneficial effects of the whole procedure.

How a mud/peat treatments help

Warmth dilates the blood vessels and accelerates the metabolism. As a consequence, the treatment eases chronic inflammation. The warmth also relaxes stiff muscles and tendons and relieves cramps. The treatment eases the swelling of joints, muscular tension, and improves the nutrient supply of the skin, all connective tissues and also the spinal discs. Furthermore, it strengthens the body’s anti-inflammatory and immune processes. In addition to musculoskeletal disorders, the Romanian salty mud is also suitable for the treatment of certain skin disorders and gynaecological diseases.

Treatment at a glance

Mud & Peat Treatments

  • What it is

A warm peloid therapy in which mineral-rich natural mud or moor peat is applied as a localised pack or full-body wrap. The peloid holds heat deeply and steadily, gently warming joints, muscles and connective tissue while its mineral and humic components are absorbed at the skin.

  • Who it's for

Best suited to guests living with chronic musculoskeletal complaints such as osteoarthritis, back pain and rheumatic stiffness. It is typically prescribed as part of a doctor-supervised balneotherapy programme rather than as a one-off cosmetic treatment.

  • Expected results

Many guests report eased joint stiffness, looser muscles and improved comfort and mobility over a course of treatments. Individual outcomes vary, and the effect is generally cumulative across several sessions rather than immediate.
