Oxygen Inhalation

What Oxygen Inhalation is

Oxygen is inhaled through a soft and flexible tube leading into the nose whilst you sit comfortably in an armchair. The air being inhaled is enriched with about 40-60% oxygen at a reasonable level of humidity.

How Oxygen Inhalation helps

An increased supply of oxygen into the body enhances the immune system, improves heart activity and the elasticity of the lungs, helps the condition and efficiency of the mind and is excellent for overall health.

Advisable for:

Stress, fatigue, acute and chronic respiratory failure, chronic respiratory conditions (e.g. chronic obstructive lung disease, fibrosis, severe asthma), postoperative convalescence

Not advisable for:

Infectious diseases, fever, uncompensated high blood pressure

Oxygen Inhalation

  • What it is

A short, supervised session in which you breathe oxygen-enriched air through a soft nasal cannula or face mask, usually for 20 to 30 minutes. The flow is gently humidified for comfort and set to a level prescribed by our spa physician.

  • Who it's for

Suited to guests feeling tired or run down, those still acclimatising after long-haul travel, and people with mild, stable respiratory complaints who have been cleared by our medical team. It is often added to a wider balneotherapy or rehabilitation programme.

  • Expected results

Over a course of sessions many guests report feeling more refreshed, clearer-headed and less fatigued. Responses vary from person to person, and any therapeutic benefit should be confirmed with your attending physician.

Is oxygen inhalation right for you?

Oxygen inhalation is a gentle, drug-free supportive therapy that is reviewed by our resident spa physician before your first session. Please read the guidance below and speak to our medical team if you are unsure whether it suits you.

  • Not recommended:Severe or unstable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), where supplemental oxygen may blunt the natural breathing drive
  • Not recommended:Known carbon dioxide retention or type 2 (hypercapnic) respiratory failure
  • Not recommended:Untreated pneumothorax or recent chest, lung or airway surgery
  • Not recommended:Smoking immediately before a session or any use of open flames near the equipment, owing to the fire risk around oxygen
