Gentle recovery from cancer treatment

Gentle recovery from cancer treatment

Oncology

From diagnosis to recovery, the cancer journey is quite a roller coaster. We help people who are already in remission from cancer to reinvigorate themselves to embrace the challenges of everyday life. An ensana health spa stay is designed to relax the senses and calm the mind. And this in turn boosts the immune system, which can speed recovery from anti-cancer treatments.

Our drinking cures provide naturally carbonated mineral water, or you can take a dry bath in carbon dioxide. Alternatively, carbon dioxide can be blown over the vulnerable parts of the body to:

  • improve blood flow through the tiniest capillaries
  • stimulate metabolism
  • heal radiation scars
  • boost immunity and resistance to infections.

At ensana we support our guests with a gentle programme of deliciously healthy meals, natural therapies, fresh air and social events. To rebuild your muscular strength and cardiovascular stamina, our physiotherapists prescribe gentle activities such as Nordic walking and aqua gymnastics.

Caution

All cancers are suitable for an ensana health spa stay, including: breast cancer, chronic leukaemia, multiple myeloma, lymphoma. But you must have been in stable remission for at least six months.

Recovery you can feel, step by step

  • 2–3 weeks

    Recommended programme length

Our oncology rehabilitation physicians typically advise a supervised 14–21 day stay so that graded exercise, lymphatic work and rest can build gradually and safely.

  • ≈ 6–8%

    Indicative limb-volume easing

Guests receiving manual lymphatic drainage and compression therapy for stable, treatment-related lymphoedema may see a modest reduction in affected-limb swelling over a full programme (indicative figure, individual results vary).

  • 6 months

    Fatigue improvement maintained

Many guests report that cancer-related fatigue eases through structured graded activity and rest, with gains that may be sustained for around half a year when the home plan is followed (indicative figure).

Once active cancer treatment is behind you, the body still needs time and structured support to recover. Our spa programmes are not a cancer therapy; they are a supervised path back to strength, drawing on graded exercise, manual lymphatic drainage and the calming effect of our thermal environment. With oncologist clearance, we tailor each programme to where you are in your recovery, working gently to ease fatigue, reduce treatment-related lymphoedema and restore confidence in movement. Most guests tell us that leaving with a clear, achievable plan to continue at home matters just as much as the time they spend with us.
